Fanciful Stitches: The Quilt Shop

The Quilt Shop, was designed for all you aspiring quilt shop owners out there. Now you can have your own shop! Imagine owning a whole building dedicated to quilting instead of just 95% of your home. Imagine walking down isles of choice fabric, passing racks of colorful thread and tripping over barrels of fat quarters.
Swoon!
In my new book, Fanciful Stitches, Colorful Quilts, there are patterns for all the elements that make up a good Quilt Shop. And by developing the Quilt Shop pattern, I like to think I am providing a service to all of you living in remote areas without access to a quilt shop. You're welcome.
Like any good Quilt Shop owner, I focus on the important things like stacks of fabric and a fresh pot of flowers to greet you at the door. The French Knot and  Lazy Daisy stitches are perfect for the flowers. See the decorative Blanket Stitch on the pot and Fern Stitch vine crawling up the wall of the shop? Charming! The stitch diagrams in Fanciful Stitches are guarantee to charm as well. Or at least give you an idea of how to make the stitch.

And now for all you charming folks out there: I'm giving away a Fist Full of Threads! to a random reader who leaves a comment on this blog today.  (Please note: if you win, I have to get your shipping address somehow, so  you may have to leave your email address.)

Please stay tuned for next Tuesday's coverage of another Fanciful Stitches project: The Light House. The Light House, a project for those of us who need a little direction. And I'll give away another Fist Full of Threads!

I rely heavily on the internet as I don't have a local fabric shop!
I would love to win a copy of your book!

no quiltshop in my hometown, that's why I started dyeing my own fabrics. now I don't really care for quiltshop fabrics anymore. but I always love to rummage through one if I get the chance. I love your embroidery threads, I'm always doing embroidery on anything I make. and a stash (of thread) can never be big enough. thank you for your generocity

Our only LQS shut down last year. It is sorely missed. Now we rely on the internet or trips to "the big cities" of Birmingham or Atlanta or Huntsville to get our supply fix.

That's really cute, Laura, the quilt shop! I'm STILL trying to win a Fistful of Threads.

There's no quilt shop in my town either. I'd love a fistful of threads. My Blue Trees are waiting for such a win

I love your dyed embroidery threads. I would make a quilters workshop instead of a store where all the quilters can come to learn to dye, discharge and loads of other techniques.

Hi Laura, I'm trying again to win a fist full of thread. In our village there is no quiltshop and so your quiltshop idea is great!

Love the quilt shop -- don't most quilters have the fantasy of owning their own shop?? The flower pots are adorable!

Oh yes, we rural dwellers need this shop. It's a service indeed! Love this design.

I am amazed at your stitches! My mom use to do embroidery work and some crewel work, but I've never been able to succeed at it. Maybe your book would help me over the hurdle! I would love to win your fistful of threads!

Enjoy your delightful ways of encouraging us to play! Thanks for your blog!

This says volumes to me. I moved two years ago and I've been unable to find a quilt shop within a reasonable driving distance.

I like the mix of stitches on the quilt shop! Since I have started doing surface design the quilt shops don't have all that I want/need.

Relentless Toil said...

That is so cute! Since I learned to dye I don't visit the LQS so much any more, which is a shame - browsing through is so restorative. But they are renting out their longarm studio (wow) so I'll be back there soon.

From sunny england here.Laura your everyday pictures of just the humdrum of life are just inspirational I would love to embellish my quilts with some of your thread I might just buy some anyway - Is that possible?

Gerrie said...

I hardly ever shop at a quilt shop because I dye my own fabric or buy it from you, on occasion. However, I do love to visit one now and again. I am still hoping for a fistful of thread!!

This adorable quilt would be the closest I'd ever come to owning my own quilt store!

I love your quilt shop! I think owning a shop must be a dream of every quilter at some time or other.

My LQS is whatever can find on the internet. An adjacent county has a Wal-Mart with a small fabric area and another adjacent county has a JoAnn's. So, love your little shop that can explore and find all sorts of neat things. Looking forward to next week's project peek. Would love to receive a fistfull of threads so can play and learn your concepts in thread-u-cation. Happy New Years!

My beloved fine art gallery...of which I had a lot of fabric art because it is my favorite..(including Melody Johnson's work) had to close this last Aug. I think about when the economy changes--hopefully in less than 3 years..I want to start a fiber art store. Not just quilting...I want it to be ALL things fiber art in one store. Felting, knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, quilting, etc...with classes as well and clubs....I spend my days dreaming...and until then I am spending my days trying to get better (or at least somewhat competent) to be able to help a customer with all these types of fiber art..This is my time to learn...and it is keeping me sane as I wait for the economy to change. ...your book looks awesome..I will have to get it! By the way I am trying to win whatever you're givin away today! :)
