Thread-u-cation Thursday: Chicken Cocovan

Isn't this a lovely little hankie? It is a gift from my friend Frieda who knows I'm a push over for hand stitching as well as chickens. It is beautifully embroidered with very delicate, tiny stitches. Look closely and you'll see very fine stem, satin, and running embroidery stitches. The tatting on the hem is extraordinary!
And the image is so delightful! Don't you want to know the story about the wine glass and chicken? What could it mean?

Are you sure that it's a wineglass?

At first look to me, it seemed like an "egg cup". The chicken and the egg .... guess that made sense in my early morning brain. :)

I saw an egg cup, too, with an egg. Are we all hungry this morning?

Yup, egg cup came to mind when I saw it, too. But it's lovely no matter what the chicken is looking at.

I just assumed it was a wine glass because of the title, "Chicken Cocovan". Coq au vin (pronounced cocovan) is a French recipe for chicken marinated and cooked in red wine. I know because I love to cook (and eat-ha) and I just got a recipe from a friend who made it recently and it was divine (he brought me leftovers). Planning to make it soon myself. Beautiful stitching and yummy recipe.

Diana's comment made me hungry...hehehe
The gift is beautifully hand stitched. I look at it for several minutes. What a treasure.

Definitely saw the wine glass right away, full of chicken feed, and the exquisitely-stitched chicken is intent on pecking up the contents.

Laura, I hope you are safe and warm at home. TV news of Lake Shore Drive look so awful... Hopefully over in Elgin it is not quite as snowy!

And thanks for the new free pattern!

I thought egg too, sitting on an egg holder, lol.
I have some old fabric that looks like linen, but shiny, so wondering what I can make with it, might be good to stitch on.

It still looks like a wine glass to me. Ok, maybe a wine glass full of chicken feed.

Ohhh, a wine glass! That's funny. I didn't see a wine glass at all, I saw the chicken looking at an egg in an egg cup and pondering...which one of us DID come first?? Laura
