How to Tuesday: How to Make a Cosmos Flower

Cosmos
At last! The Cosmos are blooming in my garden. And they better after all that back breaking, dirty, sweat producing labor I invested in them.  But they are lovely!  Here's how to  make your own Cosmos grow on your quilt tops.
  • Apply fusible web to purple flower petal fabric (2 1/4" x 7").
  • After the fabric cools, remove the release paper.
  • Place the fabric glue side up on the cutting mat (so the fabric doesn't tack to the mat).
  • Cut 2 strips measuring about 1" long by 7" long from the flower petal fabric with a pinking rotary cutter blade.
  •  Cut 8 triangles measuring about 1/2" wide on the decorative side from the 1" strips to form the small flower petals.
  • Arrange 8 flower petals with the point meeting in the center on the release paper.
  • Stack 2 layers of fused yellow fabric and free-cut a dot measuring about 3/4" across for the flower center. (You want 2 layers of yellow because the purple petals will show through just 1 layer of yellow.)
  • Stack the flower center in the center of the petals. Fuse-tack into place.
  • After the fabric cools, carefully remove the flower from the paper.
  • You now are an official creator of Cosmos. Congratulations!

Dang. . .your directions make me feel like I could actually make these and have them resemble cosmos flowers! I need to take the leap and try. . .maybe tomorrow?

That is a great tutorial! So simple but looks complicated. That is my kind of project!

Howdy from Oregon Laura,
Thank you for sharing so much with so many. You truly inspire me.
Do you have a preference for a type of sewing machine needle that sews through several layers of fused fabric?

Thanks again for all you do,
